P429-K smuggled cigarettes seized

CLOSE to half-million pesos worth of smuggled cigarettes were confiscated by authorities on Thursday, January 28, in Barangay Camalig, Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

Davao Police Regional Office (PRO 11) spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz said that based on the report, the Sarangani Municipal Police Station and Philippine Coast Guard conducted a joint operation against smuggled cigarettes in their area.

It was part of the intensive campaign of security forces in running after smuggled items.

Driz said that suspected smugglers were spotted onboard a motorized banca with markings “C-Jay and Kyla”, painted in blue, white and yellow.

A total of 715 reams with an estimated market value of P429,000 were allegedly found on board the banca.

These are under the custody of Philippine Coast Guard Sarangani Station.

The apprehended smugglers were identified as Alfrin A Nuñez, 24, and Mageke J Amponga, 23, both residents of Barangay Mabila, Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

They were arrested after they failed to present the necessary documents. The suspects, who will be facing charges, are under the custody of the Sarangani police.
