THE Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas (LTO-6) will conduct a general assembly for all tricycle operators and drivers’ association in Western Visayas in Bacolod City this August.

LTO-6 Regional Director Rolando Ramos, who paid a courtesy call to Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, at the Government Center, said he asked the permission of the mayor to use the Bacolod Arts and Sports Youth (Bays) Center in August for the said activity.

He said about 5,000 tricycle operators and drivers association in Western Visayas are expected to attend the general assembly.

“We will discuss the behavior of the tricycle drivers, especially on using the highways because they are now the problem in the highways,” he added.

Ramos noted that most of the tricycles are travelling overloaded and it’s illegal.

“We are implementing the usage of the particular road to all the tricycle drivers all over the Western Visayas to use the rightmost part of the road,” Ramos said.

He said the local traffic enforcers are also authorized the arrest overloaded tricycle traveling in national highways.

He added that erring drivers can be charged for violation of Republic Act No. 4136 or “an Act to compile the laws relative to Land Transportation and Traffic Rules,” and will pay the fine of P1,000 to P3,000.

Meanwhile, the LTO is also intensifying its operation against private colorum vehicles in Western Visayas.

Ramos said LTO was tasked to regulate all the private vehicles operating as colorum while the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) was tasked to regulate the franchised operated colorum vehicles.

“It’s our job to regulate private vehicles that are using it as colorum,” he said. (MAP)
