THE celebration of the 51st Araw ng Davao del Norte not only commemorates the founding of the province, it also highlights its bounty and beauty.

Last June 25, 2018, Davao del Norte Governor Anthony del Rosario launched the Kadagayaan Festival 2018.

"The festival is about honoring the history and identity that bind the Dabaonons as one, while they make the most of their rich and diverse culture in moving the province forward," he said.

Centered on the theme, "Bawat araw, may biyaya ng pagbabago", the festival showcases some of the province's notable products as well as its tourist destinations.

"The theme this year takes inspiration from the blessings brought about by the change sweeping all over the country," Del Rosario said.

One of the highlights of the Kadagayaan Festival is the staging of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia- Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-Eaga) Tourism and Investment Expo, which will feature an exchange of culture and destinations among Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines.

The expo seeks to provide Dabaonons an opportunity to market their products to BIMP-Eaga.

Another highlight of the Kadagayaan Festival is the Fashion Night for a Cause on June 26, 2018.

The fashion show showcased 34 indigenous-inspired casual wear, formal wear, and evening gowns. The designs take inspiration from the people, sounds, sights, shapes, colors, and icons of Davao del Norte.

The funds generated from the fashion show will benefit the women sector, local fabric producers, designers, and bead makers.

Other activities that were staged in celebration of the Araw ng Davao del Norte include the Best People Festival of Services, 1st Mindanao-Wide Dog Sports Competition, Farmers-Technicians’ Day, Basta DavNor Sikat! Talent Grandfinals, Inter-LGU Basketball Championship, Hanas Dabaonon Skills Competition, Bb. DavNor 2018 Coronation Night, Hudyaka Street Dancing, and Alay DavNor Walk 2018.

A grand fireworks display on July 1 will culminate the week-long celebration.

The 51st founding anniversary of Davao del Norte is firmly supported by the Tagum Agricultural Development Company, Inc. (Tadeco), Ulticon Builders, Inc. and MED 9, official partners of the province for the celebration.

The sponsors of the event include the Hijo Resorts Davao, Davao Metro Shuttle, Kapalong Cooperative, Tagum Cooperative, Inc., LYR Group of Companies, Land Bank of the Philippines, Pagcor, and Panorama Summit Hotel while the donors are the Holiday Garden Island Development Corporation and TrueMoney Philippines.
