MANILA -- House Speaker Prospero Nograles on Monday said that the issue on a leadership vacuum in case of failure of elections is just a ploy to oust Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile.
“There is absolutely no need for the Senate President to be replaced now using the failure of elections succession vacuum as an excuse. Legally that ain't going to happen,” Nograles said.
Enrile's term as a senator will end in time for the May 2010 elections, unlike 12 other senators who still has three remaining years in their terms.
Enrile is also running for re-election.
Nograles said no provision in the Constitution requires the Senate President to step down if he is seeking an elective position. (Angela Casauay/Sunnex)
