THE City Government of San Fernando jumpstarted Monday, July 2, the observance of Nutrition Month and National Disaster Resilience Month by unveiling the calendar of activities in front of city hall.

The activities lined up for the Nutrition Month include the Corn Cassava Festival on July 6; the launching and technical briefing on container farming and edible landscaping on July 11, 18, and 20; launching and technical briefing on season-long farmers field school on July 24; Healthiest Preggy Fernandina on July 27; and awarding of the outstanding barangay nutrition committee (BNC) and barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) on July 30.

Meanwhile, activities for National Disaster Resilience Month include the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) emergency response capability static display on July 18 to 20; disaster preparedness and capability building for accredited community disaster volunteers (ACDV) and schools on July 24 to 26; fire and earthquake drills on July 26; San Fernando Run 2018 (Safrun) on July 29; and fourth community disaster volunteers capability assessment on August 1.

"Ugaling magtanim, sapat na nutrition and aanihin" and "Katatagan sa Kalamidad ay Makakatamtan Kapag Sapat and Kaalaman sa Kahandaan" are this year's nutrition and national disaster resilience month themes.

Mayor Edwin Santiago told SunStar Pampanga that the observance of Nutrition Month and National Disaster Resilience Month are important for the City Government and Fernandino stakeholders.

"Nutrition has been a very important aspect of our agenda since it is part of the foundation in every Fernandino family. Good nutrition is necessary to get education especially at a younger age, that is why the city government is focused on food sustainability. Equally important is our preparedness in any eventuality like disasters and calamities. It is essential that we are ready all the time as lives are very important to us," he said.
