PNP wins beach volley title

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) Lady Patrollers copped the Governor Beach Volleyball Women's Invitational Cup title at the Menzi Beach Park in Dahican, Mati City over the weekend.

The Lady Patrollers, bannered by Police Officers Floricel Magsigay and Princess Oliveros, survived the University of Mindanao (UM) Tagum, 21-15, 18-21, 15-12, in the finals of the event in celebration of the 51st Araw ng Davao Oriental.

The Magsigay-Oliveros pair, who recently competed in Iligan City, also defeated UM Davao in the semifinals. The duo also eked out victories over UM Tagum, San Pedro College-bannered Davao Oriental and Ateneo de Davao University High School-laden City of Mati during the eliminations.

"One day lang mi naka practice kay gikan pa mi ug Iligan so wala mi naka prepare ahead of time (We only practiced once since we just arrive from Iligan)," Magsigay, in a phone interview yesterday, said.

Magsigay said winning the tournament was an unexpected feat.

She thanked Police Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan, Regional Director of Police Regional Office-Davao, for allowing them to compete.
