Espina: Hello again, Dawnie

In my diary

OMG! My e-mail was hacked! My email was hacked Jan. 12. A scam expert e-mailed my friends asking for big amount of money because I was allegedly stranded in a London hotel unable to pay my bills. Not true. Please disregard that e-mail. The hacker asked my friends to send money to Western Union Money Transfer at Suit 5 Osborn House, 3-5 Portland Road, Hythe Surray, UK City 21 6 EG. Calling my yahoo provider to trace this scammers. I have a new e-mail. Not using my old e-mail anymore.

A big cross-section of the tourism, travel, socio-business sectors—led by Lita Urbina and this writer—gave outgoing Department of Tourism (DOT 7) Director Dawnie Roa a heartwarming “despedida” party at the Laguna Garden, and hosted by the Urbina family.

In a short notice, the 75 well-wishers came despite the heavy January calendar to pay tribute to this strong-willed lady who served Cebu for 17 years.

She was supposed to end her first extended three-month stay this month when, lo and behold, two days after the get-together, we got the notice that Dawnie will have her second extended term till April 2010.

Present in the gathering was the next DOT 7 Director Rica Bueno who said she would carry on what Dawnie successfully implemented, which resulted in the tremendous growth of tourism in Cebu. Dawnie proved what Shakespeare said that leaders are made of sterner stuff, which could not sit well with a few, but definitely proved beneficial to a large majority of the key players of Cebu and Region 7 as a whole.

So, welcome back again, Dawnie. There is much more we can do till April. Cebu couldn’t simply let you go! The photos on this page may not show all those who joined the affair, but a good number had a chance to share some moments.
