City, Siwala wrap up LGBT June Pride Month

THE City Government of San Fernando and the Siwala organization recently wrapped up the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) June Pride Month by bringing the LGBT community together in a culminating activity at Vista Mall here.

The gay community participated in a runway show with the use of Fernandino designed outfits. The participants were acknowledged through a recognition program.

The objectives, which are gender equality and social inclusiveness promotion, were accomplished in this month-long event.

Meanwhile, societal issues faced by the LGBT community were tackled during a seminar-orientation on June 28, 2018 at the Rene M. Medina Hall, Pampanga High School, this city.

Through the city’s partnership with the Commission on Human Rights, junior and high school students discussed issues such as discrimination and bullying toward the members of the LGBT. The rights and privileges of the LGBT community were also imparted, through House Bill No. 4982 or An Act Prohibiting Discrimination on the Basis of Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity or Expression (Sogie) and Providing Penalties.

The Sogie bill states that the LGBT community should be given rights to education and employment, equal to what heterosexuals get, with programs and projects that promote their protection to free them from discrimination and bullying.

Organized by the Local Government of San Fernando, through its Gender and Development, the “Seminar Orientation: Discrimination Amongst LGBT in the Community Learning Institutions” is part of the city’s observance of the LGBT June Pride Month for this year, which aims to promote gender equality and social inclusiveness among Fernandinos, with the theme, “Magkakaiba, Nagkakaisa”.
