THE first time I had dinner at the Huckleberry Southern Kitchen and Bar was back in 2015, also the year when I started blogging.

Since then, I have been wanting to write about the restaurant. When it was included in Philippine Tattler's Best Restaurant Philippines List in 2016, all the more I wanted to visit it again.

This year, I was finally able to find the time to come here again. I also brought two of friends here so we can try more of their food.

The place

Located at the first floor of the Oboza Heritage House in Rizal St. Huckleberry Southern Kitchen and Bar offers rustic yet modern interior.

At one side of the restaurant you will find the bar, where you and a couple of your friends can also spend your time at while you are here. If you don't like feel dining inside, you may also dine at the garden outside.

The food and beverages

While waiting for my friends to arrive, I ordered their Sili Infused Rum (P80/shot). I really liked it. I just love that kick of spiciness from the sili.

For our dinner, I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken with Waffles (P365) while my friends had the Beer Braised Pork Belly (P315), and Southern Beef Stew (P265). I also ordered a corn muffin (I forgot to note the price). Then for our dessert, we had the Beignets a la Cafe du Monde with Hot Chocolate Dip (P185).

The Southern Fried Chicken with Waffles was really delicious and my favorite dish of the night. I love how crispy the skin was. The chicken that was served to me was juicy.

The corn muffin is hands down my favorite muffin in Davao City.

Both of my friends also enjoyed the food they ordered. I took a bite from each and I find the dishes also delicious.

The Beignets a la Cafe du Monde with Hot Chocolate Dip was just okay.

The service

The service we got during our visit here was pretty good. I think the staff were kind and accommodating. The serving time for the food was around 15 to 20 minutes.

Bottom line

Overall, I think the Huckleberry Southern Kitchen and Bar lives up to its name as among the must-eat places in Davao City.

I think the food here is not only delicious but I also find it comforting. The price of their food here is reasonable as they serve good quality food that are delicious and the serving portions are also pretty big.

I also find the restaurant to be a great place for friends to hangout at after a day's work.
