CITATION tickets await violators of the new 20-second parking rule within the “yellow box” loading and unloading areas for passenger vehicles in Davao City.

Dionisio Abude, head of the Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), said they will issue citation tickets to erring drivers who will not abide with the traffic rule.

However, he clarified that as of Thursday, July 5, only areas in A. Pichon Street, formerly Magallanes Street, San Pedro Street, and C.M. Recto Street have the 20-second signages. These are the areas where they would apprehend violators.

"Yes, we already began our apprehension, but only those areas that have signages installed because according to the traffic code there should be a traffic sign," he said.

The new rule requires public utility vehicles to pick up and drop off passengers within 20 seconds as a measure to minimize traffic congestion.

PUVs loading or unloading persons with disabilities (PWDs), pregnant women, and senior citizens are exempted from this 20-second rule.

CTTMO is still making more traffic signages to be posted in designated areas with yellow box. Abude said that their next targets are Ramon Magsaysay Avenue and Matina near NCCC Mall.

Abude, however, said he has yet to obtain data on apprehension of violators.

A P500 penalty will be imposed on drivers who disregard traffic signs and regulations as well as those who obstruct traffic flow.

Meanwhile, Abude said Thursday that almost 3,000 PUV drivers attended the Public Utility Vehicle Drivers Education Program at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.

The program seeks to orient drivers on the traffic code as a prerequisite before they could acquire PUV ID from the CTTMO.

He said that he took advantage of it and informed them about the new traffic rule and urged them to adhere to it.
