Benguet employees get wage increase

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Like employees of other local government units, close to 1,000 workers of the Provincial Government of Benguet will receive increased salaries starting this January.

In its Provincial Resolution 10-01, the Benguet Provincial Board (PB) stated that the salary increase of its personnel has been incorporated in province's Annual Performance Budget for calendar year 2010.

Executive Order (EO) 811 issued by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo provides the implementation of the first tranche of the modified salary schedule for civilian personnel and base pay schedule for military and uniformed personnel in the government or the Third Salary Standardization Law (SSL-3).

The EO also mandates local government units to implement SSL-3 in four years or more depending on the capability of the LGU with the first tranche implementation on January 1.

The SSL-3 in the National Government will be implemented in four tranches with the first installment in July 2009 and end on 2012. The national government allocated some P18.4 Billion for the first adjustment in pay of its 1.141 state workers.

For LGUs, their respective councils will determine salary rates adjustment based on their income class and financial capability and shall not exceed the Personal Service Limitation of their local government budgets.

The SSL-3 is the third salary adjustment implemented by the government. The first was in 1989 and the second in 1994. (Andrew Doga-ong)
