PBL holds 2nd Draft

THE Philippine Basketball League (PBL) will hold its 2nd Draft tomorrow to allow new teams to fill out their line-ups for the February 13 season-opening tournament.

With as many as four more teams gaining the nod to play in an organizational meeting held last Friday, Executive Director Butch Maniego said there’s now a need to conduct a second draft and entertain applications from other players who may have missed the first draft last December.

The second draft, to be held at the Old Spaghetti House of Robinson's (Pioneer branch), will also open the path for ex-pros to resume their careers provided they are not yet 26 years old.

"Some ex-pros who are not yet over the age limit are still allowed to play in the league," said Commissioner Chino Trinidad.

The league, according to Trinidad, will ask the five teams which picked players last December to protect 12 players each and put the rest in a pool along with late applicants, including ex-pros.

"With at least eight teams competing, we are certain we can give collegiate players the venue and time they needed to toughen themselves for the coming collegiate season," Trinidad said.
