Orola orders CEO to clear relocation area for flower vendors

BACOLOD City Administrator Atty. John Orola ordered on Friday, July 6, the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) to clear the relocation area for the flower vendors at the Bacolod Arts and Youth Sports (Bays) center.

Orola said the city will transfer all the flower vendors from Bacolod public plaza to the designated site behind the Bays Center within this month.

He said the City Council had earlier approved a resolution requesting City Mayor Evelio Leonardia through the City Legal Office-Enforcement Team to implement the relocation of flower vendors.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Em Ang, stated that there is a need to relocate the flower vendors in order to allow the full implementation of the rehabilitation, improvement, and beautification of the public plaza pursuant to the plans designed by the CEO.

Orola said they will forward the copy of the approved resolution to the CLO so they can implement the transfer of the flower vendors.

The city had identified a total of 19 flower vendors at the public plaza and they were tasked to build their own stall behind the Bays Center with the assistance from the City Government.

Orola said the flower vendors also agreed that they will transfer behind at the Bays Center and it’s only temporary because the city will find a new place for them.

The City Government had earlier planned to transfer the flower vendors to the Vendors Plaza at the Reclamation Area, but it was opposed by the majority of the flower vendors.

Orola said the public plaza is governed by two entities, the City Government and the Diocese of Bacolod.

He said the Diocese of Bacolod, which owns the portion of public plaza being occupied by the vendors, also agreed to the transfer of the flower vendors.

Orola disclosed that the diocese issued a usufruct agreement to the City Government to manage the public plaza. (MAP/SunStar Bacolod)
