San Fernando to host training on campus journalism

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Teachers Education Academy (TEA) will be hosting a regional training for Campus Journalism Coaches and Advisers on July 25 to 26.

The event dubbed “The Press Briefing” is a training for student paper advisers and coaches in preparation for the upcoming competitions in the upcoming cluster, district, division and regional and national press conference competitions in high school and elementary levels. The hosting of such competitions are pursuant to Republic Act No. 7079, otherwise known as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991.

In line with this, TEA aims to provide a more rigorous training program for teacher coaches in handling and training their respective student writers. The training sessions include copy reading and headline writing, pag-uulo at pagwawasto ng sipi (editing), science reporting, and feature writing.

The event will also include a training on opinion writing, a new category in this year’s competitions.

There will also be a bonus lecture on tips and training programs that could be employed on students for them to win in the various levels of the competition.

The event will be held at the Audio Visual Room of the University of the Assumption.

A separate journalism training will be hosted for students on July 27.
