No. 1 in Davao drug list falls

A YOUNG man, which police claim is their number 1 target, was killed in a shootout with police authorities during a drug bust at San Guillermo Chapel in Barangay 22-C, Boulevard in Davao City on Sunday morning, July 8.

Police identified the suspect as Ian Laurente Habana, alias Ian, 24, a tricycle driver, from Barangay 22-C in Boulevard. He was listed as no. 1 in the drug watch list of the authorities here in Davao City.

Report obtained from Davao City Police Office (DCPO) revealed that Habana was supposed to be arrested by a police officer who acted as poseur buyer when the suspect resisted arrest.

Habana allegedly pulled out a caliber .38 revolver handgun and attempted to shoot the poseur buyer who purchased one plastic sachet containing suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu,” around 11:25 a.m.

The police officer was able to evade the bullet then shot back, hitting and wounding Habana in different parts of his body.

The suspect, however, was declared dead on arrival at Southern Philippines Medical Center in Bajada.

Investigators from the Sta. Ana Police Station then endorsed the crime scene to personnel of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco), who recovered P500 cash from Habana’s pocket and another three sachets of suspected shabu.

The total drug evidence has an estimated weight of 0.085 grams worth about P3,000 pesos.

All evidence, including the substance recovered from the suspect are now placed at the custody of the Sta. Ana Police Station for disposition.
