Davao's Amoguis breaks girls U13 400-meter IM mark

LIAA Margarette Amoguis of Davao City registered a new Philippine junior national record in girls 13-under 400-meter individual medley by clocking a total of five minutes and 19.62 seconds in the 42nd SEA Age-Group Swimming Championships at the Trace Aquatics Center in Laguna over the weekend.

The 11-year-old Amoguis, who salvaged the bronze medal, erased Raven Faith Alcoseba's 5:26.26 mark three years ago in the 2015 Batang National Championships in Cebu.

She trailed 13-year-old tankers Thailand's Kamonchanok Kwanmuang (4:57.26) and Vietnam-ZZ's Vo Thi My Tien Tien (5:16.26) who clinched the gold and silver, respectively.

"I didn't expect to break a Philippine record. I didn't know there was a Philippine record. I am happy to beat a record. It's also a miracle to also get a bronze," Amoguis, coached by Haroon Cali of Holiday Gym and Spa, said in a Facebook interview with SunStar Davao on Monday, July 09, 2018.

The Dabawenya was fourth in girls 13-under 200m butterfly and 800m freestyle events then finished fifth in 100m butterfly.
