MSME Week 2018 starts

RECOGNIZING the importance of local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Davao City, the MSME Week 2018 celebration kicked-off on Monday, July 09, 2018.

Through Proclamation No.6 series of 2012, Davao City proclaimed the second week of July every year as MSME Week in the city.

In a message from Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, delivered by city administrator lawyer Zuleika Lopez during the flag ceremony on Monday at the city hall grounds, she underscored the importance of the MSMEs in generating jobs for Dabawenyos.

She added that through the MSME Week, Davao City is not only recognizing the efforts of the MSMEs but also encourages the people of Davao to support and patronize the enterprises' products and services.

Duterte-Carpio also assured that through close coordination with the Davao City MSME Development Council, they will continue to provide an environment that will enable local businesses to grow and foster the growth and development of MSMEs.

She said this is presently being done by providing fiscal incentives, trade facilitation, and business matching opportunities.

Among the highlights of the MSME Week Celebration is the MSME Expo 2018 at the Abreeza Mall on July 16 to 19, 2019. The expo aims to showcase the local products from MSMEs of Davao City.

According to the proclamation, the declaration of the second week of July as MSME Week in the city is the local government unit's commitment to "actively advance the concerns and issues of small scale businesses in the city."
