The talk is about the vice governor "probables" who will be the respective running mates of incumbent Governor Junjun Davide and challenger-returnee Gwen Garcia.

Two-termer Vice Governor Agnes Magpale has repeatedly said she is retiring from politics and won't run for any post. Junjun, looking around for his vice governor-wannabe in the 2019 return battle with Gwen, said his top choice is Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca, chief of the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Office.

Ivy Meca had previously served as barangay captain of Guinsay, Danao City (two terms, 2001 and 2004), city councilor in 2007, and as president of the Cebu Councilors League sat as Provincial Board member from 2010 to 2016. With Magpale's nod, Meca would be it.

Just as businesswoman Mariquita Salimbangon-Yeung, sister of Representative Benhur Salimbangon, would be the running mate of Representative Gwen Garcia, former three-term governor (2007-2013). No formal announcement yet (for bigger impact, Gwen had said) but there seems to be no one else in sight. Benhur had previously refused the VG slot, preferring to focus on the election of his successor, his wife, to the House seat he will vacate next year.

Mariquita is better known for her charity work and links to the Beautiful Cebu Movement. She ran twice for Bogo City mayor, in 2010 and 2013, but lost both races. She transferred voting residence last May 30, 2015 from Bogo to Medellin where she grew up.

Poe and Bato

Latest Pulse Asia survey on "senatoriables" show that:

* People may know or are familiar with a potential candidate but may not vote for him, e.g.: Harry Roque, the president's spokesman -- 64 percent are "aware" of Roque but only 7.9 percent will vote for him. He is #25-33 in the list.

* One may appear in almost all the photos of President Duterte but may still not be recognizable, e.g.: Bong Go, the president's assistant, photo-bomber extraordinary. Only 52 percent are "aware" of him and only 9.9 percent will vote for him. He is among the cellar dwellers, but ranking #23-31, higher than Harry Roque.

* Bato de la Rosa is more familiar to the nation than Grace Poe, the top-notcher. While 99 percent of those surveyed are "aware" of the senator, 100 percent know Bato. Bato is #5-12, within the winning circle.
