4 truckloads of trash collected from river, village

THE river clean-up activity initiated by the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) on Saturday, July 7, yielded four truckloads of trash from the Magay river and Zone I village.

Rodrigo Pagotaisidro, OCENR public service officer IV, said the four-hour clean-up activity also resulted in the rescue of 10 rugby-sniffing children loitering on the streets of Zone I.

Pagotaisidro said the children were turned over to the Processing Center of the City Social Welfare and Development.

The Magay river clean-up was the first of a series of campaigns that will be launched by the OCENR in partnership with other agencies as part of the intensified campaign to implement the solid waste management program under Ordinance 2016-176, otherwise known as the Integrated Solid Waste Management System of Zamboanga.

Pagotaisidro said the river clean-up drive will be done once a month in the different villages of Zamboanga City.
