Woman dead, cop wounded in drive-by shooting

A WOMAN was killed while her business partner, a policeman, was wounded in a drive-by shooting late Monday, July 9, in Zamboanga City, police said.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the fatality as Eva Lariaga, 27. She did not reach the hospital alive.

Senior Police Officer 1 Fredie Teves, 42, who is assigned with the Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula headquarters, was wounded and hospitalized.

Galvez said the incident happened around 8:05 p.m. Monday in Barangay Upper Calarian.

Investigation showed that the business partners went to Upper Calarian aboard a Sports Utility Vehicle to collect a debt owed by a certain Evelyn Salvador.

Galvez said one of two men riding on a motorcycle opened fire when Teves slowed down the vehicle he was driving to look for the residence of Salvador.

She said Teves managed to drive the vehicle towards a hospital but Lariaga failed to reach the hospital alive.

One of the assailants was identified as a certain Bhakie. Police said the possible motive was personal grudge.
