THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) assured the accuracy of information that will be encoded into the new license plates.
LTO Enforcement Division Chief Francis Almora said the features of the new plates include a corresponding Radio Frequency Identification sticker (RFID).
The RFID, when scanned through an LTO equipment or a phone app, will indicate the make, color, file number, engine number, chassis number and the plate number of the vehicle.
“Ultimately, all plates to be produced in the future will have the RFID and QR codes,” Almora said.
The LTO simultaneously released available vehicle plates nationwide last week, with the first batch covering pending license plates from July 1 to October 31, 2016.
“These newly produced plates based on the first contract will meet the same standards of what we are producing now. Those still to be produced plates will have the said features, while for those printed and produced will just have to wait for the cycle for its replacement of plates,” Almora said.
In April, the LTO inaugurated its new license plate-making plant, which could produce about 22,000 plates daily, with plant personnel to work in two shifts starting July to fast-track the release of license plates.
The agency has a backlog of about 3.8 million motor vehicle plates and 5.2 million motorcycle plates from July 2016 to March this year.
Production of motorcycle plates, however, is still not being done pending measures on how the sizes of this plates should officially be made.
