Ex-Army killed in front of family in Magpet

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Suspected communist guerillas shot dead in front of his wife and two children a former soldier in a hinterland village in Magpet, dawn of Saturday, July 7, 2018, police reports said.

Chief Inspector Jose Molina, chief of the Magpet municipal police station, identified the victim as Dominador Favian, 47, of Sitio Bialong, Barangay Binay in Magpet.

Chief Inspector Molina, quoting the victim’s wife Jocelyn, said at least 10 fully-armed men forcibly entered Fabian’s house, all looking for Dominador, around 1 a.m., on Saturday.

Molina said the victim was ordered to face the suspects while Jocelyn and two of their children, aged 10 and 12, were told to lie on their stomachs.

The police officer said that after few minutes, shots were fired and Jocelyn saw her husband’s body oozed with blood.

After the suspects sensed their target was already dead, they started to search Fabian’s house, Molina added.

Jocelyn told Magpet PNP the armed men were looking for firearms allegedly being kept by her husband but found nothing.

It took the suspects almost two hours before they left the site, reports added.

Police had received reports that the NPAs were behind the killing but no statement has been issued yet by the Front’s spokesman.

Favian’s murder came a day after the Army killed three NPA rebels in a firefight in Barangay Don Panaca, also in Magpet.

Slain NPA rebels were identified as Jonelle Entero, 27, his brother Jowelle, 17; and Roland Tulay, 22, all residents of Tugbok district, Davao City. (Malu Cadelina Manar)
