Davao councilor: Kadayawan not yet a holiday

DAVAO City Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre said Kadayawan sa Dabaw festival will still have to be declared as a holiday.

“We have passed the resolution asking for the holiday last June. And we are just waiting for the feedback from their office (Office of the President) as well,” Alejandre said during the press conference on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the City Council.

He added they are just waiting for the announcement from the City Mayor’s Office regarding the date of the holiday so that the private sector can prepare their activities in line with the Kadayawan activities.

Festival coordinator Gatchi Gatchalian also said with the expected celebration of the Kadayawan festival on the third Friday of August, the celebration of the festival will fall on a long weekend.

“We have to remember that August 20 is a Monday and August 21 is a Tuesday and also is a national holiday,” he said.

Gatchalian said the long weekend would be a good selling point for people to really visit Davao and celebrate the Kadayawan Festival.

The City Tourism Operations Office is expecting 200,000 tourists for this year’s Kadayawan.
