Davao mayor overwhelmed by survey ranking

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said she does not know what to say about being in the Top 12 of senatorial preferences in the latest Pulse Asia Survey for the 2019 midterm elections.

“I am overwhelmed. I am at a loss for words,” Duterte-Carpio said.

The survey taken from June 15 to 21 had 1,800 respondents who were asked for their top 12 senatorial bets next year. It was released last Monday, July 9.

Duterte-Carpio garnered 46.2 percent of votes among surveyed respondents. The Presidential daughter also received awareness level of 95 percent, ranking third to fifth.

She was also included in the Magic 12 during the previous survey for March 23 to March 28 wherein she was ranked fourth to seventh.

Senator Grace Poe kept the lead in the survey after she got 67.4 percent of the votes followed by Pia Cayetano (55.7), Cynthia Villar (50.1), Duterte-Carpio and Edgardo “Sonny” Angara Jr. (41.9). Also rounding up the top 12 were former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald Dela Rosa, who earned a spot in the top 12 senators with 37.7 votes and statistical ranking of fifth to 12th, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel with 37.7 percent, Nancy Binay (37.1), Sergio “Serge” Osmeña (36.6), Lito Lapid (36.2), JV Ejercito (35.6) and Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino (32.1).

Earlier, Duterte-Carpio lambasted Senator Antonio Trillanes IV over his statement that her father President Rodrigo Duterte has a plan to let her run for higher office so they will stay in power.

She warned the senator not to irk her and that if he would not leave her alone, she might run for a senatorial seat in 2019.

“Do not bother me and my slot will be available for a yellow Senator for the 2019 elections,” Duterte-Carpio said.

As early as last year, however, she already sought the support of the business community to run for yet another term as city mayor saying she wants to have all the projects she has identified for Davao City to be in place, since these cannot be done in just three years.
