New-look Dragons eye Cebu 10s

THE Cebu Lady Dragons set their eyes on the Cup once again as they prepare to take on five visiting clubs in the 5th Annual All Ladies Cebu 10s Rugby Festival in the Cebu International School (CIS) this Saturday.

“We turned over a new leaf this year. We now have fresh blood. We have five players who have played more than one rugby tournament in this team,” said Cebu Lady Dragons head coach Noel Flowers in a press conference yesterday in the Semi-Final Bar along Gen. Maxilom Ave.

The Lady Dragons are up against Dubai-based club Al Ain Amblers, Makati-based SKF Mavericks and Makati Chiefs, Manila-based Eagles Select and Dadiangas Lady Generals.

“Most are new to the sport but we’ll do our best to get the trophy and also make sure that we’ll have fun,” said veteran Mae Ann Ubaub, who is one of the few remaining members of the championsip squad from two years ago.

The Lady Dragons won the Cup in 2016 after beating Manila Mayhem, 10-0. The Lady Dragons, however, fell short the following year and lost in the final, 12-10, to the Shanghai Pink Dragons.

“I’m one of the old members here. I’m looking forward to playing with my new teammates for the first time. We’re going to work hard, play hard and afterwards party harder,” Madille Salinas, now based in Manila but who came home to play for the Lady Dragons.

The Lady Dragons have beefed up their roster with five Cebu-based Papua New Guineans. (RSC)
