THERE'S a new miracle machine in town that’s available in Victoria’s Beauty Alphabet along JR Borja St. Dr. Ernie B. Canlas proudly says that he and his business partner are the first ever aesthetic center to offer this LAST (lift and shape therapy) in our town. When you see the radical reshaping of celebrities’ face, you cannot help but wonder what in the world did they do? No amount of dieting can fight genetics, but with this latest procedure, face contouring is now made possible. And the best part: their price is so much cheaper than the prices in Manila.
Doc Ernie has been a practicing dermatologist and a family medicine specialist for 20 years. He set up a clinic in CDO because one of his closest friends (who prefers anonymity) is a local. They offered to let me try out this LAST High Intensity Frequency Ultrasound Treatment, so I can write an in-depth report on the experience. I couldn’t refuse because the glamourous maven, alias she-who-must-not-be-named, is also my friend.
I was a bit skeptical, at first, because the therapy starts off with a topical anesthesia and a dose of pain killer. Acccck! I have very low pain tolerance, and I am not really the type who wants to suffer for vanity; but what convinced me to finally go on was when I saw instant results with a much older lady who went ahead of me. When she was done, her wrinkles on the forehead, laughlines, and eyebags were literally “ironed” off her face by LAST.
According to Doc Canlas -- “LAST high intensity frequency ultrasound is the only FDA-cleared, non-invasive procedure that lifts and tightens the neck, chin and brow, and improves lines and wrinkles on the chest. It is not only for the face but the body too as an alternative to surgery. The effects are lifting and contouring for lines, also slimming. It uses high frequency ultrasound energy, which stimulates collagen production in the skin's foundation, resulting in a clinically significant lift of tissue over 2-3 months. The thing about this product, the results get even better as the days go by!”
True enough, it is not as invasive as surgery, but it is not completely painless either. However, the topical anesthetic/pill makes it tolerable. This is what you really call “tiis-ganda”! They offered me a relaxant before we started, but I refused it because I felt fine with the topical cream and pill. I could only tolerate the lowest setting of the machine because, aside from being super nervous and afraid, I don’t like pain. Truth-be-told, the procedure was much faster than the waiting time for the anesthesia to kick-in.
They run a rectangular shape device on the areas of the face, focusing on the laughlines, crows feet around the eyes, forehead, and jaw line. I felt a zapping sensation that was similar to a million bites of red fire ants, so I kept reminding them to stick with the lowest setting. The assistants kept telling me, “Sayang naman ma’am!” I just shrugged and repeated I could not endure more. I know results are best seen when the highest settings are utilized, but I am fine with no drastic transformation if it means less pain. In spite of the minimal frequency, I still felt the tightening of my skin and my pores were less visible after my 20-minute session was over.
Doc Ernie said: “There are a lot of procedures that can be done through surgery to address a patient's requirements, but I believe that there are also other options that can and may serve the purpose which will not require a patient to be under the knife. I prioritize safety, so I only use USA-FDA and BFAD approved medicines, injectible fillers, topical botox, topical anti-aging, and threadlifting which are all superior alternatives to surgical procedures. For our our clinic’s facials, we only use botanical and plant-based products like Gurlavi from Israel because it is safer and has no downtimes.”
One of the procedures that is popular in his Manila clinic now is the “Thermage Hifu Utherea CO2 Laser Slimming Mesolipo,” which is weight loss sans the effort and pain. He hopes to also eventually bring it here to CDO. Dr. Canlas is an advocate of nurturing each person's natural beauty. Beauty for him should emanate from within, by using mostly natural products and from living a healthy lifestyle.
As a practicing doctor of Family Medicine prior to specializing in Dermatology, he values good health and believes that it should be the core for everyone to feel beautiful inside and out. For him, cosmetic surgery should only be done if absolutely necessary and being naturally beautiful is the more lasting way to go!
