15 rounded up for smoking

AT LEAST 15 people were rounded up in Cagayan de Oro City for smoking and going out in public shirt-less, data from Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) showed.

Cocpo records revealed that from June 28-July 9, three people violated the smoking ban, eight were reprimanded for going out shirtless and four for violation of other ordinances such as adults and minors involved in trouble, stoning incident or gang wars.

Cocpo spokesperson Superintendent Mardy Hortillosa II said these people were not detained but were only reprimanded and told to go home.

Hortillosa clarified that this is still in compliance to the anti-tambay campaign of the Duterte administration.

Hortillosa said they would clarify the said local laws before strictly enforcing them such as the smoking ban.

It can be recalled that smokers puffing cigarettes in public areas will be next after roads and alleys are cleared from loiterers.

"Ipadayon sa Cocpo ang pag-implement sa mga local ordinances especially katong klaro nga nakabutang sa balaod pero katong gray area dili sa namo i-apil para dili ta makalapas sa tawhaong katungod (Cocpo will continue implementing local ordinances. But ordinances with grey areas will not be included to avoid violating human rights)," Hortillosa said.
