Sungduan: Ifugao Gotad Ad UK 2018

THE practice of the Cordilleran tradition and culture continues even in the United Kingdom (UK) as seen in the celebration of the Ifugao Gotad Ad UK 2018 held at Leeds Yorkshire.

Dubbed “Building a home away from home” the festival organized by the Ifugao Organization UK (IOUK) was another event to remember for the Ifugaos living in UK and members of the Igorot UK as it made them feel the happy memories back home.

The gala night was full of warm-hearted greetings and joyful gathering of family, friends, and guests. The cultural night was a learning experience for the young generation.

IOUK president Evan Binyahan said more than just an occasion the event aims to pass to the new generation the beautiful and unique cultural that they are proud of.

The cultural night showcased a ritual lead by the elders, presentation of the excerpt of the famous Hudhud epic, the lively Ifugao dance Dinnuy-a, Ifugao song, and Benguet Bugkalot.

London based Archie Nabus said the event became a successful weekend for all the Igorots in UK with the fruitful outcome of the 5th year celebration of Gotad which was held for the first time in Leeds, Yorkshire after celebrating it in London for four years.

Former Ifugao governor Atty. Dennis Habawel also attended the occasion as special guest and speaker. In his message he stressed on the importance of autonomy and enjoined everyone to support the campaign.

Meanwhile, Binyahan said plans are now underway for the restructuring of a system which will help the Ifugao community. “In God grace we might reach out to our kabobleyan in Ifugao,” he said.

The celebration of the 5th Ifugao Gotad UK organized lately by IOUK lead by former President Mary Miguel was also supported by Bibak Leeds headed by Danny Alimba, Bibak president.

As long as there our people that will lead and an organized group that cares, the Cordilleran cultural heritage and tradition will continue for the next generation.
