Scent of the month: Dylan Blue

Scent of the month: Dylan Blue

FOR the past two Scents of the Month, we have featured perfumes that are characterized by their general sexiness. Invictus was a cheerful sexy while Eros was a serious sexy. The current #SOTM is Versace Dylan Blue, which highlights a sexiness that merges some aspects from the previously mentioned perfumes.

BOTTLE: Dylan Blue is a simple yet magnificent bottle. The color is a deep blue, and looking at it is similar to looking into the depths of an ocean which might be because it is inspired by the Mediterranean. Like other offerings by Versace, a Medusa head crest is showcased at the front while Greek key etchings are seen at the cap. The atomizer produces a generous mist as well.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:/b> Dylan Blue opens as a deep citric and aquatic scent. Bergamot and grapefruit are detectable but not easily recognizable. Unlike other scents with these notes, I wouldn’t immediately call it “fresh” or “clean” but Dylan Blue has a significant seriousness to its body which I attribute to both ambroxan (a synthetic ambergris) and possibly incense or some other deep wood. It is not offensive, only slightly sweet, slightly sour, and slightly dark.

However, it packs a powerful punch even at the first spray. I have heard it being compared to Sauvage by Dior before, and while not exactly the same, I see the similarities in the deepness. In terms of uniqueness, Dylan Blue stands its own ground but upon closer inspection you might recognize that the scent is familiar and not all too revolutionary. That does not make it a bad scent though.

DRY-DOWN: As the citrus notes fade, the scent slowly grows sweeter. But when the sweetness fades, it becomes this light, pleasant and slightly powdery scent that becomes more bitter and astringent like grass. It is a very attractive and very masculine scent. I actually think this is how “sexy men” are stereotypically expected to smell like, so I guess this leads it to be a general crowd pleaser.

PERFORMANCE: On my skin, a spray is enough to last around seven or eight hours. I suggest two sprays, but in reality one should be sufficient to coat oneself in a musk of mystery. This is a compliment getter and a very easy pick for a gift. Unlike other sexy fragrances, the margin of appropriateness in terms of age is wider, and I happily purchased a bottle for my father on his birthday. This is the scent for the contemporary male.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Versace Dylan Blue is an enjoyable bottle. While it may not really be groundbreaking in terms of complexity, it does a good job of being an accessory. It improves your appeal to other people. It has interesting notes. It is largely inoffensive to many kinds of people and remains to be one of the safest fragrances to purchase if you aren’t too familiar yet. I highly recommend this bottle for men of different backgrounds.

Dylan Blue retails for approximately P5000 per 100 mL bottle in department stores.
