Valley veggie traders serve 50 kilos salad

AT LEAST 50 kilograms of vegetable salad was served to the public to highlight the 34th foundation of the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post (LTVTP) on Friday.

Nora Ganase, president of the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post League of Associations said they have requested for the municipal officials for the foundation celebration as an annual activity for the town.

“Likewise, this is our quest to hold the title of Guinness World Record for the biggest vegetable salad in partnership with the municipality of La Trinidad,” she added.

At least 50 kilograms of assorted highland vegetables were made into salad on July 13 at the trading post.

“This year, 50 kilos ang vegetable salad natin. Kasi replica lang ito with a budget of P5,000 sponsored by stakeholders, associations, and coops.”

The vegetable salad is composed of romaine lettuce, cucumber, American tomato, cherry tomato, bulb onions, and lemon.

Pending the enactment of an ordinance for its celebration, the committee on public markets and local economic enterprise approved the use of the bagsakan area at the LTVTP for it foundation day.

Last year, a total of 1.3 tons of giant vegetable salad was served.

The trading post, established on July 13, 1984 is one of the top vegetable trading area in the country.

Mayor Romeo Salda said once a proposed ordinance is passed, the foundation day will become a municipal wide celebration.

The municipality holds the Guinness Book of Record for the biggest strawberry cake. (With a report from Kaizzer Ponce/UP-Baguio intern)
