Osmeña now clear of ‘spaghetti’ wires

CAGAYAN de Oro City Government's Task Force Hapsay Kable has cleared the messy wires and dangling cables off Osmeña Street this city.

According to City Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr., they have now started cleaning up “spaghetti wires” along Pabayo Street. At present, they were able to retrieve a total of 146 kilometers of unused wires and cables.

He added that aside from the messy wires, they were also able to recover a large number of unused poles.

“Yung mga poste na hindi na ginagamit, kinuha natin para mas maluwag ang daan ng mga tao, yung pedestrian sidewalk (We also retrieved those unused poles so that the pedestrian sidewalk will be spacious),” Lao said.

The city councilor also mentioned that even though they are still at seven percent of completion, they are optimistic that by the end of the year, the clean-up will reach 50 to 60 percent completion.

After they finish clearing off the abandoned wires, cables and posts in Pabayo Street, Lao said they will start moving the wires and cables along Apolinario-Velez Street underground.

“Kung nandun na tayo sa Apolinario-Velez Street, underground na yun, wala tayong makikitang wires dahil meron na kasing underground tunnel ng Misortel, dun natin ilagay yung mga wires para hindi na makita sa aerial, sa ibabaw, or sa poste (When we start our operations along Apolinario-Velez Street, we will move the wires underground using the underground tunnel of Misortel so that no wires or cables will be seen above),” Lao said.

Task Force Hapsay Kable, headed by City Mayor Oscar Moreno and co-chaired by National Telecommunications Commission Regional Director Teodoro Buenavista and Lao, was formed to “re-groom” Cagayan de Oro and become a “smart city” through clean-up of sagging, inactive or abandoned wires and cables throughout the city.

The group has partnered with local telecommunication companies as well as the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company in this effort.
