Gov’t hospital to hold CPR training

THE Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) Emergency Medicine Department will conduct a training in line with the nationwide mass cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on July 16 at Sped Matina to build up awareness on its importance in saving lives.

Doctor Rozalyn Reyes-Mauro, Emergency Medicine resident of SPMC, said that the activity will be participated by around 150 students and teachers to gain knowledge on the basic CPR in case of emergency situation and disaster preparedness.

This is seen to empower every member of the community to have life-saving capability.

“The campaign's general objective is to promote awareness and basic knowledge on hands only CPR to every Filipino age eight to 60 years old, and to gain international recognition as CPR ready country,” Reyes-Mauro said.

This year's theme is “Save a life, Learn CPR.” It was also conducted last year. It will start from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday.

“This is sanctioned by DOH (Department of Health) together with the Philippine Heart Association and the local govenment,” she said.

Under Republic Act 10871 or the Basic Life Support Training in Schools Act, she said students are required to undergo age-appropriate basic life-saving training to make them aware and knowledgeable in performing CPR when the need arises.

For July, the country is celebrating the National Disaster Resilience Month. (JCR)
