A place to keep rainy day blues away

CAGAYAN de Oro City has been experiencing rains for almost a week and the possibility of getting yourself unexpectedly stuck in an open space under the mercy of the pouring rain is going higher.

The weather has also caught into people's moods as the atmosphere gets gloomier, feeling what some call as the rainy day blues.

It did not take a long time for me to experience both: stuck in an open space thankfully under the protection of my umbrella, my spirit down as I look for some place to take shelter from the harsh rain.

And I was able to chance upon a place that seems to turn your frown upside down as soon as you step inside.

Located at the LK Building, Rizal Street beside Monster Kitchen near Gaston Park, the Double Bubble Cafe cheers its customers up with its cute interior design and pastel colors.

Its service crew were also refreshing to look at with their cheerful smiles and pleasant attitude when serving its customers.

According to the cafe owner, Neshel Dela Vega Cipriano, the cafe was originally a laundromat and at the same time a coffee shop, with it formally named as Double Bubble Laundromat Cafe.

“But it was not working out, medyo mahina yung laundry (the laundry part of the establishment was slow) so I decided to remove it na lang and retain the cafe since its the one picking up naman,” Cipriano said.

She also mentioned that she personally created the interior design of the place, with the swings, which was located near the cafe's window, inspired from what she saw when she was in Palawan last year.

“I went to Palawan last year and I got inspired, I like the idea that na meron (to have the) swing. So yun, I tried to apply it na mailagay ko talaga sa coffee shop ko (so that its in my coffee shop),” Cipriano said.

Neshel said the cafe started from her love for coffee. She even studied to become a barista.

“I have this passion for specialty coffee and passion for latte art. I also like nagtatambay sa (to stay and hang out in) coffee shop, very relaxing. Its a passion and I turned it into business,” she said.

Double Bubble Cafe does not only serve coffee, but also cakes, cookies, and even meals, with their best sellers: (in food) baby back ribs and (in drinks) tiramisu frappe.

“Visit the cafe and you will experience food and drinks made with love,” Cipriano said.
