MisOr evacuees enjoy health care services

INDIGENOUS evacuees from Sitio Camansi, Banglay in Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental have availed themselves of various health care services through a medical mission at the Provincial Capitol Park over the weekend.

The half-day medical mission was initiated by Kalumbay Lumad Organization, Rural Missionaries of the Philippines-Northern Mindanao Region, Tulong Kabataan, Panday Bulig, Higala Lumad Network and other support groups.

Displaced residents avail free check-up, pre-natal for some seven pregnant women, medicines and vitamins.

The mission aims to provide relief of common ailments and primary healthcare to the Indigenous Peoples, including pregnant women and children.

Sariza Acosta, spokesperson of the Tagtabulon Lumad Organization, said they are bringing one evacuee to the hospital almost everyday since their encampment.

She said evacuees are experiencing fever, cough, upset stomach, among others, due to the environment that is different from their community.

Acosta added the evacuees were dismayed over the lack of medical assistance extended by the Provincial Government.

“Kulang man gyud ang suporta sa kapitolyo kay sa tinuod lang bugas ug pagkaon ra man gyud na ilang gihatag. Dunay lamesa sa Provincial Health Office (PHO) diri pero tambal ra gihatag walay ingon nga mga doktor nga mosusi sa panglawas sa mga bakwit. (The support from the Capitol is not enough. honestly, they only give rice and food. The Provincial Health Office give medicines but there are no doctors who can check the health of the evacuees.),”Acosta said.

“Adtong Lunes nihatag mi lista sa mga nagsakit wala gyud tubag. Sa hospital dunay isa nga giingnan ngano magpahospital nga walay kwarta unya unsa bay kwartahon sa bakwit (Last Monday, we gave them the list og those who were sick but no feedback. One evacuee said the hospital did not entertain them because they had no money),”she added.

Acosta said the Provincial Government also failed to give their own share for the medical mission.

“Nagpa-receive mi og letter sa PHO para sa medical mission gibalikan namo gahapon unya gipaadto mi sa Admin unya ingon ang admin paabuton pa si Governor Bambi so basin naapikhan siguro sila (We sent a letter to PHO for the medical mission. We asked an update yesterday then they told us to go to the Administration Office but the Admin said we'll wait for Governor Bambi.),”Acosta said.

However, Acosta said they are thankful that other non-government organizations and the Church have extended their aid to respond to the medical needs of the evacuees.
