Body found in Naawan

AN UNIDENTIFIED male corpse was found Saturday, July 14, around 6 a.m. in a grassy area in Purok 3 of Naawan town, Misamis Oriental.

SPO1 Cirilo Manco, investigator of Naawan Municipal Police Station (MPS), said residents in the area reportedly heard two gunshots Saturday dawn.

“A concerned citizen called up to this station informing us that a dead body was seen lying in the grassy part of that area,” Manco said adding that one resident saw a white van speeding towards the crime scene moments before the shots were heard.

Police Officer 2 Mark Marcilla of Naawan MPS said the victim, estimated to be between 15 to 25 years old, was naked when he was discovered by a resident in the area.

At least two gunshot wounds were found on his body - one at the right temple and another one on his right chest.

Marcilla said the only identification seen from the victim's body is a tattoo on his left arm spelled 'Nuel'.

“He was burned. There is indication he was doused with gasoline because we can still smell it when we conducted investigation,” Marcilla said.

Two slugs of caliber .45 supposedly etched one feet deep were retrieved in the area where the body sprawled.

The body was brought to a morgue in nearby Manticao town.

Last June 9, a female body was also found in Barangay Maputi, also in Naawan. It was wrapped in a sack and the pants and underwear were lowered down to her knees.

“We did not see any wounds on her body, just bruises. There were indications she was hit with hard objects on her head and face that caused her death,” Manco said.

The victim, who was identified and claimed by the family on June 28, was a 22-year old married Maranao woman who had two children and was a resident of Barangay Bacolod Chico, Marawi City.

Manco said the family said the victim was last seen alive in the morning of June 9.

She reportedly went to Iligan City to buy medicines but was not able to return home. Her body was found in Naawan around 3 p.m. (Divina Suson)
