Costanilla: ‘Chiong sisters’ movie hits cinemas tomorrow

MOVIE. Finally, the movie on the abduction of sisters Jacqueline and Marijoy Chiong 21 years ago will have its premiere tomorrow, Tuesday, in one of the local cinemas. It starts at exactly 7 p.m. This true-to-life flick was filmed in Cebu last April as Ysabelle Peach’s maiden directorial job. “My baptism of fire,” she told me.

GUIDANCE. I learned that 85 percent of “Jacqueline Comes Home” was shot in different locations in Cebu, particularly in sitio Tan-awan, Barangay Guadalupe, and Carcar City where the two sisters were brought by their eight abductors. Ysabelle Peach did a terrific job in executing the movie’s screenplay that was meticulously written by her dad, the incomparable Carlo J. Caparas, himself a well-respected film director. Here, he gave his daughter his full support, encouragement, blessing and guidance in coming up with a flick that she can be so proud of.

INVITE. “Jacqueline Comes Home” is a must-watch movie. No, it doesn’t touch on the legal aspect of the high-profile case but it’s like the untold narrative of the sisters’ mom that the viewing public should know. By the way, the regular run of this film starts on Wednesday in cinemas nationwide.

STARS. Veteran stars Joel Torre and Alma Moreno play the couple Dionisio and Thelma Chiong, respectively, while Meg Imperial is Jacqueline and Donnalyn Bartolome is Marijoy in this film.

CHEERS. Congratulations to my good friend Fr. Renel Cabag, OAD, on his assumption to the presidency of Tabor Hill College Inc. in Barangay San Jose this city. Best of luck to you, Padre!
