THE Subang Sinugdanan of Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival will be re-enacted along the shore near Magsaysay Park so that more Dabawenyos can witness the annual activity.

“Last year, we rode the boats along Davao River but we only saw few people who witnessed the event. We felt that the money allocated into it was a waste because few Dabawenyos appreciated the event,” Gatchi Gatchalian, festival director, said, adding that last year the event was also held at 6 a.m.

The event is a commemoration of the interaction between Lumad and Moro groups along Davao River. The banks of the river are home to eleven indigenous groups living in harmony and peaceful economic trades.

Gatchalian will be placing six boats to represent the Moro groups and will be creating a “Padian” or a Muslim market at the park.

“We will be creating the Padian were the Muslim and the Lumad can interact, just like what happened in the past,” Gatchalian said.

With the goal of this year’s Kadayawan to be more interactive, the Padian will be selling different goods from August 10 to 20. Here, Dabawenyos can buy products from the Moros and Lumads.

“We want the participation from the Dabawenyos in the Padian so that they themselves can know what happened in the past, be able to at least experience a taste of history,” Gatchalian added.
