THE driver of a sedan died while seven people were injured after three private vehicles figured in an accident at Buhangin underpass on Carlos P. Garcia Highway, Buhangin District, Davao City on Sunday, July 15.

Declared dead at Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) was Decerio Durias Relacion, who was from San Roque, Malalag town, Davao del Sur.

Relacion was the driver of the Hyundai Accent sedan bearing plate no. MR-6808. He tried to overtake another car, but ended up hitting it and an ambulance at the underpass.

Injured passengers from the sedan are Jessa Mae Ceriales, 30; and Rhodalle Andila, 31, both from Buhangin, Davao City; Elona Jane Domogan, 26, who is from Digos City; and Eva Alicaway, 27, from Cateel, Davao Oriental.

Another injured person was identified as Frank Dulpina, 33, a resident of Purok Nueva in Surigao City. Dulpina was a passenger of the Toyota Hi-Ace ambulance bearing plate no. KGU-281 driven by Ranolfo Mediano, of Sta. Cruz town.

The other vehicle involved in the accident is a Toyota Innova multi-purpose vehicle bearing plate no. LJH-437 owned by Shariff Madzmir Hasim, of Guiwan in Zamboanga City, driven by Alexander I. Villarube Jr. from Agdao, Davao City.

A report by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) showed that the accident took place at about 1:40 a.m. on July 15.

The sedan was following the Innova going north, while the ambulance was on the opposite lane headed south.

The sedan driver tried to overtake as they approached the underpass, but seeing the ambulance approaching, Relacion swerved back to his lane, colliding with the Innova and the ambulance.

All the victims of the accident were rushed to SPMC, but Relacion was declared dead by the attending physician. The police are now conducting follow-up investigation on the incident.
