46 pistols enroute to Zamboanga seized in Cebu port

THREE persons were arrested for attempting to smuggle 46 unlicensed .45 pistols in Barangay San Sebastian, Samboan in southern Cebu last Saturday.

The suspects were identified as Floramae Reando Cobol, 37; Marivel Ancot Manit, 54; and Evelino Cabeza Cobol, 36. They hail from Barangay Suba, Danao City in northern Cebu.

Investigation showed the suspects were about to deliver the firearms to a customer in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.

Denial Each pistol had a magazine loaded with seven bullets.

Before their arrest past 7 p.m., the suspects were held by Philippine Coast Guard personnel stationed in the San Sebastian Port in Samboan after trained dogs detected the contraband.

The local police were called and a team was dispatched to the port. The suspects were arrested after they failed to present permits and a license to transport the pistols.

The suspects, however, denied owning the contraband. They also refused to divulge the source of the contraband.

A complaint of violating Republic Act 10591, which prohibits illegal possession of firearms, will be filed against them before the Office of the

Provincial Prosecutor in Cebu City today. (KAL)
