Tricycle driver stabbed dead

A TRICYCLE driver was stabbed to death at Barangay Sum-ag in Bacolod City Saturday, July 14.

Police authorities identified the victim as Roque Gargarita, 60, of Barangay Zone 6, Pulupandan, Negros Occidental.

Senior Inspector John Christopher Masangkay, head of Police Station 9, said Gargarita was allegedly attacked by 56-year-old Pedireco Asuncion with a knife after seeing the victim with a woman, whom he was courting.

Masangkay said the woman, whose name was withheld, only hired Gargarita to transport her to the village, where she rented an apartment. They even did not know each other, Masangkay added.

Masangkay said Gargarita and the woman have no relationship, however, Asuncion, who was believed to be drunk, suddenly approached and stabbed him when he both saw them arrived together.

Gargarita succumbed to a lone stab wound on his chest and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Masangkay said jealousy may have triggered Asuncion to commit the crime. He was arrested and will be facing murder charges. (Debbie Benedicto, STI West Negros University intern)
