Diocese enjoins Catholic faithful to be peacemakers amid violence, blasphemy

THE Diocese of Bacolod led by Bishop Patricio Buzon enjoined the Catholic faithful to be peacemakers amid the rising violence, human rights violations, extrajudicial killings, murder of priests and blasphemous statement circulating in media.

In a pastoral letter read by the priests under the Diocese of Bacolod, Buzon also enjoined everyone for the fasting and abstinence on Alms Day from July 17 to 19, relative to the call of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Father Chris Gonzales, head of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Bacolod, said that the diocese will start the observance of fasting on July 16 through prayers for peace in the whole country.

He said the Diocese has already conducted in advance the same activity on June 29, when they conducted a procession from Lupit Seminary to the San Sebastian Cathedral.

Gonzales said that the ringing of bells of all churches under the diocese will continue every 8 p.m.

"We as Christians are to speak always from the perspective of peace and morals and never in any political or ideological agenda in our mind. We just offer guidance to shed light on the controversies," the pastoral letter further said.
