THE Social Security System in Davao City found seven business establishments along Magsaysay Avenue, Davao City violating the Social Security Law through the Run After Contribution Evaders (Race) conducted Monday, July 16.

“Based on the reports submitted by SSS Davao branch, about 30 percent of the identified establishments are hardcore violators the SSS Law. That’s why we selected this area as our next stop for the Race campaign to show how serious we are in eradicating illegal practices of these employers,” SSS president and chief executive officer Emmanuel F. Dooc said in a press conference Monday, July 16, at SSS Conference Hall, Davao City.

During the Race, SSS reprimanded a real estate establishment and a manpower service company for their non-remittance of contribution. While stern warnings were given to a fashion enterprise for non-reporting of their employees.

Other business establishments that failed to comply with their SSS business registration were a cellular trading store, a clothing-retail shop, and a toy enterprise.

The seven delinquent employers received show cause orders which gave them 15 days to respond from posting to the nearest SSS branch. They must also register their business to SSS, file a roster of their employees, and pay the principal delinquency which includes accrued penalties.

Under the Social Security Act of 1997, violators of the law will be penalized a 12-year maximum jail term, alongside with paying accumulated penalties and total delinquencies.

Meanwhile, SSS is also considering the possibility to amend the SSS charter.

“We are asking for legitimate power in order for us to exhaust our responsibility in doing our obligations,” Dooc said.

The proposed amendment may include closing down non-complying establishments.

Dooc also mentioned the importance of the cooperation and participation of Dabawenyos for a successful Race.

“We are doing this in order to promote social security to Filipino workers. In this way, we can protect them through our initiated benefits,” Dooc said.

Dooc is expecting that through the Race program, employers will comply with the procedures of SSS.

The Race program was also conducted in Batangas, Dagupan, and in Manila.
