CCTV cameras in Iloilo City 'need enhancement'

THE Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo) has asked the City Government to enhance the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the city's villages.

Icpo Director Henry Biñas said Monday, July 16, that there was no specification followed during the purchase of CCTV cameras, noting that the quality of videos captured by the CCTV is low.

“A lot of crime incidents can be solved using CCTV but the videos are blurry,” he said.

For now, Biñas said they will coordinate with the City Government’s information technology office to work with the improvement.

“Some other cities, the crime can be solved easily because there are CCTVs in every corner,” he said.

Under the city’s Regulation Ordinance 2011-307, all business and commercial complexes, establishments and other high-risk places should install CCTVs.

But the ordinance does not include a specification as to the CCTV resolution.

The Icpo said the resolution must be amended to include the standard specifications.

“Just in case, there are crimes that might transpire, it can aid us to conduct proper investigations,” Biñas said. (SunStar Philippines)
