Hosts gear up for 2011 forum

TRAVEL agencies and hotels in Cebu, with the support of the Provincial Government and the Department of Tourism (DOT), will attend the Meetings, Incentives,

Conventions and Exhibitions (Mice) Conference in Subic on Feb. 4 to further promote Cebu as a tourist destination.

The conference will be sponsored by the Philippine Convention and Visitors Corp. (PCVC), a non-stock, non-profit government corporation attached to the DOT.

Jessica Avila, one of the panelists for the “incentive travel” session, said participants can expect a lot of workshops.

“This is actually to teach, especially those who are not in the business yet, to excite you to learn. It will not just be focused on incentive travel, but will also include topics on handling conventions and exhibitions,” Avila said.

On Feb. 6, local government units from Bohol, Camarines Sur, Davao and Iloilo and the hotels and resorts will install booths, creating a marketplace of ideas and products, said Avila.

DOT Director Patria Aurora Roa said that Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia will go to Subic during the Mice Conference and help promote the 2011 conference here in Cebu.

“Next year’s Mice Conference will be a big one and the governor is ready to spend P500,000 for that hosting, aside from DOT, which is putting in P300,000 for Cebu’s booth,” Roa said.

Roa added there will be 350 delegates to the Mice conference and about 25 of them are from Cebu.

Avila said they will also feature in Subic the Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo because a lot of participants have not yet been to Cebu or have visited only the city.

“We are going to showcase the different municipalities in the north and south of Cebu Province,” Avila said.
