Pacya: Experience business with La Trinidad entrepreneurs

THIS is the month where almost everyone in the local government unit is busy in preparing activity designs, processing procurement papers and inviting participants.

July is a very hectic month for government employees and officials. The month offers a lot of celebration including the National Disaster Resilience Month, Nutrition Month, Cordillera Month, Police Community Relations Month, National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development (MSMED) Week.

In most of the celebrations, the capital town of Benguet has crafted ordinances supporting the implementation of activities during the month.

Your son would like to focus on the entrepreneurs’ activity in La Trinidad on July 23 to 26 at the Municipal Gym. The week features activities that will sustain the development of entrepreneurs while promoting their products and services. This is a four-day event that will showcase the products and services of local start-up enterprises.

On the first day, the local exhibitors will be setting their booths and prepare their displays ready for marketing and retailing in the afternoon of the same day. The trade fair will continue until the 26th with other exhibitors coming from Baguio City and other entrepreneurs from Benguet.

Simultaneous with the trade fair is the start of COOPlympics on the 24th, now on its second year. The sports activities during the day are Chess and Scrabble only, other sports events will be slated in August and September. COOPlympics started last year where cooperatives in the valley compete for the top places in Chess, Scrabble, Darts, Basketball, Volleyball, and Badminton. Many co-ops gave positive feedback to the activity since it increased the number of their members as sports enthusiasts became interested in joining the coop sector.

Job seekers are advised to get ready on their impressive resumes and their radiating character because on the 25th, the Municipal Public Employment Service Office coordinated with a recruitment agency to conduct a job fair. The activity will be conducted in the event area of the trade fair.

The last day of the MSMED Week celebration will be the 3rd La Trinidad Entrepreneurs’ Summit with the theme, Leveling Up MSMEs for Success and Growth. Agencies from the government and non-government sectors will be invited to give an update on the business industry in the municipality.

The day will end with a one-on-one consultation with agencies and the organization of La Trinidad Entrepreneurs Federation.

The entrepreneurs will be happy to see you in the celebration. Your presence during the activities will help promote and uphold the micro, small and medium enterprises in the locality.

Department of Trade and Industry reported that in 2016, the list of establishments of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recorded a total of 915,726 business enterprises operating in the Philippines. This was 1.64% more than the 900,914 business establishments reported in 2015.

Micro, small and medium enterprises account for 99.57% (911,768) of the total establishments, of which 89.63% (820,795) were microenterprises, 9.50% (86,955) were small enterprises, and 0.44% (4,018) were medium enterprises. Large enterprises made up the remaining 0.43% (3,958).

This supports the indication that MSMEs greatly contribute to the revenue generation of the government. They are the prime actors in the business sector.
