DESIDIRIO “Sano” Engbino and Marivic Mari conquered the men’s and women’s 50-kilometer race of the 1st Team ADR’s Cebu North 50-kilometer Ultramarathon last weekend, which started in Bogo City, northern Cebu.
Engbino of Spectrum Runners Club clocked 3 hours, 55 minutes and 50 seconds to win the men’s 50K division in the race conducted by ADR running team for the benefit of PO2 Brian Lou Guillen.
Guillen collapsed before reaching the finish line of the Ironman 70.3 Philippines in Lapu-Lapu City last year.
This is another event-for-a-cause aimed at helping Guillen’s family pay for his medical bills. He is still bedridden.
Edil Batiancila finished in second place after clocking 4:05:53 while Isidro Moradas landed in third place with a time of 4:42:08.
Mari topped the women’s 50K division in 5:54:54.
Mary Claire Maranga came in 6:08:05 for second place and Lilian Racuya was at third place in 6:34:11.
Race director Jez Ramos said that he’s overwhelmed with the support they got from the running community. The race, which was also part of the fifth anniversary of Team ADR, attracted participants from Visayas and Mindanao.
“The purpose of the run is to help with the expenses of Brian, who is our teammate. Brian still needs a series of operations, therapy and assistance. He is still bedridden,” said Ramos, who added that they are planning to do this running event annually.
The race also had the 25K category, which was won by Vivencio Narca in the men’s division. He finished in 1:40:54.
Abelito Neiz came in second at 1:49:52 and Bonifacio Monjas at 1:52:22 for third place.
Filrose Mejorada won the women’s division in 2:30:57, Annalisa Dacayana finished second in 2:54:21 and Maria Theresa Sagiahon at third place in 3:32:37. (RSC)
