CHESS players in Bacolod City are in for a treat as Mansilingan Chess Society (ManChess) will host the upcoming 2018 ManChess Team Duo and Trio 16 and Under Chess Tournament at the Multi-Purpose in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City on August 26.
The two-category chess tournament expects to gather the best and brightest woodpushers in this city and its neighboring clubs in Negros Occidental.
Defending champions Lovers N Pares couple Police Officer 3 Ernie Abanco and wife Stella Mar are the team to beat along with some of the elite duos in the likes of D'Comrades of Ted Ian Montoyo and Panes Trucking Services Chess Team (PTSCT) led by Francis Glen Panes.
Prizes at stake in Team Duo are champion, P10,000; second place, P5,000; third place, P3,000; fourth place, P2,000; fifth to eighth places, P1,500 each.
In team Trio: champion, P5,000; second place, P3,500; third place, P2,000; fourth to eighth places, P1,000 each.
Top three finishers in these categories will be given trophies while the rest will receive medals. Special recognition awaits the Top Semi Class "A" and Class "B" teams.
The format of the play will be six rounds of Swiss System and a time control of 20 minutes with a five-second increment for each player. Registration fee costs P1,000 for Duo and P500 for Trio per team.
