DTI to train NegOcc coffee processors, growers on product packaging, labeling

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Occidental, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), will train coffee processors and growers in the province on product packaging and labeling.

Engiemar Tupas, senior trade and industry development specialist of DTI-Negros Occidental, yesterday, July 17, said the seminar will be held at the Negosyo Center in Bacolod City on Friday, July 20.

Tupas said the activity targets to benefit 30 coffee processors and growers in the province.

"It is aimed at preparing our local processors and growers so that we could have very good products in time for the National Coffee Congress next year," he added.

During the annual congress, every region is submitting entries for "best coffee" contest.

Through the coffee village, the activity also exhibits different coffee varieties and brands around the country.

"It is better if we also have entries to showcase," Tupas said.

Tupas reiterated that improving packaging and labels enables micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to increase the marketability of their products.

"Local processors and growers also need to expand their markets through one, improving their packaging and labels," he said, adding that good product presentation gives them market advantage.
