Police claim kidnapping not true

THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) insisted Tuesday, July 17, that the post circulating on social media about kidnapping in the city, particularly in the area of Barangay Granada, is not true.

On July 15, a female netizen posted on her Facebook account that children are allegedly being kidnapped by about five unidentified men on board an L300 van.

These men were reportedly members of a syndicate group and were reportedly sighted in Barangay Granada and another barangay in a neighboring city.

In the post, she said that the perpetrators allegedly attempted to kidnap her niece. Fortunately, she was able to escape from them.

Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, public information officer of BCPO, said they have not received any report related to the said incident.

Gabana said they also tried checking the account of the netizen but they failed to search for it.

He said posting false claims on Facebook can cause alarm and fear to the community.

He reminded the netizens to be responsible and careful about their posts on social media.

He also advised them to directly report to the police in case there's occurrence of crime so the authorities can immediately act on it.

Gabana said the city police force is doing its job to maintain peace and order.

"We are intensifying our campaign against criminalities," he added.
