City mayor pushes for increased police visibility

ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has pressed for police visibility in strategic areas and full utilization of vehicles and equipment to help minimize shooting and other crime incidents.

Salazar said this, even as she hinted that authorities should also step up its campaign against proliferation of loose firearms and gun-for-hire syndicates to reduce crime volume.

She said it is also very vital that police authorities immediately establish and explain the probable cause of each and every shooting incident that transpires in the city so that people will not be alarmed.

“The visible presence of the police in strategic areas and the utilization of all vehicles and equipment given to the people so they can maintain peace and order,” she said.

“We also ask the police to review the cases and explain immediately the probable cause of the incident,” she added.

As of Monday, July 16, the police have recorded a total of eight shooting incidents in the city with two suspects arrested.

The incidents happen in separate places and with different motives. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
